When I make my websites (this layout at least) I use IE6 to view the outcome but I’ve been wondering how my site looks in different browsers so I downloaded Netscape (4,78) yesterday and this is what I saw 🙁 and the splash page is all messed up as well 🙁
I know this is probably because of the stylesheet i’m using but …snuff…snuff… is there anyone out there that could give me tips? and also I would like to hear from those of you who are using Mac…I’ve heard that the Mac browsers don’t like style sheets so I’m sure all you see is a mess when you view my site 🙁
It’s not your fault… Netscape 4.x is notoriously bad with CSS – there’s very little CSS that *does* work in it. (Netscape 6 is much much better.) I just use the media=”all” tag to disable CSS on Netscape 4.x altogether.
other than that, I’m still finding out about mac issues… when I do a design now, I test it on IE 5.5 (my usual browser), Netscape 6.1 and Opera 5.12 – getting it working right on all three of those is probably as close to a “guarantee” as you can get as far as CSS goes, I think.
Yes, it’s so frustrating when you find that what you’ve done right and looks so good in IE, it’s just destroyed by Netscape. Seems Noah’s solution is great, so try it out 🙂
hey, i like that desktop bar on the right side of your screener – how can i do that? i have win98.
My best advice is to always test your site in both browsers as you go. If you try out a new design, have friends look at it to let you know if it works or not.
I don’t know if that’s what you’re looking for, but there goes.
i’d ignore netscape 4.x since it’s so bad and 6.1 and 6.2 are out which are so much better. This site is apparently flawless in Netscape 6.x/Mozilla.
Your site looks fabo in Mac. Do not worry 🙂
